Elks honor 4 at annual George E. Blue banquet

The Tri-State Conference of Councils—Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia—recognizes excellence and dedicated service among their own.

They also recognize individuals outside the elkdom who make outstanding contributions to the community.
At the annual George E. Blue Awards Banquet, held on Oct. 4, they paid homage to three honorees within the organization—Brother Deloyd Davis, a member of North Side Lodge #124 and who serves as trustee, is the Past Exalted Ruler of Steele City Council #8, a past president of Pennsylvania State Association, 2012 and a member of the Tri-State Conference of Council; Brother Charles (Chuck) Johnson, a member of the Greater Pittsburgh Lodge #115 and who has served in many capacities including Exalted Ruler for three years, District Deputy Grand exalted Ruler for five years, and was a member of the Commissioned Officers Club;  and lastly Daughter Vera Threet who has been a faithful member of the Elks for 38 years.

As a member of Mosiwidael Temple #38 she too has served in various capacities including Loyal Daughter Ruler, Daughter Ruler, Vice Daughter Ruler and Chaplin to name a few.
This year’s award for outstanding member of the Community was presented to George “Moe” Moses.  Moe, has been on the battle front fighting for fair housing and tenants rights since the mid ‘90s.  He has been active on many national and local boards of housing organizations, including the Southwestern  Alliance of HUD Tenants where he received the Dedicated Service Award in 2004 as well as the National Low Income Housing Coalition of which he was the chair for six years.

JOHANNA SIMMONS, Mistress of Ceremony

 
Held at the North Side Lodge #124, located on Wylie Avenue in the Hill District, event was chaired by Brother Herman (Toby) Ramseur and Daughter Audrey L. Harris-Smith.  Mistress of Ceremonies Johanna Simmons, an outstanding vocalist, also favored the audience with her gift of song.  The Invocation was presented by Chaplain P.G.DR. Jeannetta S. Holloway and guests enjoyed a dinner of baked and fried chicken, string beans, macaroni and cheese, salad, dessert and punch.
Remarks and words of well wishes for all the honorees were given by co-presidents of the Tri-State, Brother James E. Griffin and Daughter Marge Wright Eubanks.  The evening  closed out with another song by Simmons and a raffle of the door prizes.  The benediction, which was given by Chaplain Holloway, ended the lovely evening.
