Usher’s New Look Foundation and GA Tech Partner to Celebrate an Hour of Code

usherOn Saturday, December 13th, sixty (60) middle and high school students from Usher’s New Look Foundation will head to the campus of GA Tech to participate in a ‘Day of Code’ sponsored by the School of Computing and the Higher Altitude Foundation. Usher, a National Spokesperson this year for the Hour of Code Campaign presented by Code.org will inspire over 15 million youth nationwide to learn computer programming through this weeklong initiative.

Roughly 90 percent of schools nationwide do not teach computer science. A lack of access hurts our economy and creates major inequities in education. Computing is a fundamental part of daily life and it is essential that students are exposed to the field because it helps to transform the way a student thinks about the world. It not only teaches them about technology, it also teaches them how to think differently about any problem.
The Higher Altitude Foundation (HAF) serves as a convener organization to help students identify their interests, explore career opportunities and achieve their post-high school goals. Our efforts work to inspire students on the idea of discovery by creating a culture that fosters innovation and prepares them for effective involvement in an increasingly technological society.
