Food, fun and fashion were the focus of the Annual Queens Luncheon presented by the Harriet Tubman Guild Inc. On Dec. 6, ladies and a few gents filled the ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel in Monroeville. Flo Wilson and the Old School Band provided the sound track for the afternoon while the crowd enjoyed a tasty lunch. The Tri-Boro Chapter of the Harriet Tubman Guild served as this year’s host chapter for the luncheon.
Moses Lennon and Louis McCauley escorted the queens of the various chapters into the ballroom. Lorean Simmons of the Emanon Chapter was crowed as the 2014 Queen by the 2013 Queen, Rosalyn Y. Price. Jhiana Tyler of the Distinctive Young Ladies Chapter was second runner-up and Lee Anne Edwards of the Hallie Q. Brown Chapter was third. Queens also in attendance: Lizette Jackson-Hicks (Together Chapter); Barbara Thompson (Winona Idell Chapter); and Marta Regus (Tri-Boro Chapter).
When large groups of ladies get together fashion is often the focus. This year’s fashion show was coordinated by Nikole Li Aston of Astonishing Style Inc. The fashion show sponsors included Sonita’s Designs by Sonita Bell, Trends and Tresses LLC, Style Truck and Cute for Christ Clothing Boutique.
Enjoying the fashions and the spoken word delivered by Hannah McBean was Beatrice Coleman, a big fan of the guild. Coleman has been attending the Harriet Tubman Guild luncheons for years and is 102 years of age.
This year the Harriet Tubman Guild will celebrate 100 years. They are proud sponsors of the Harriet Tubman Terrace in East Liberty and The Earlen B. Taylor Scholarship.
