The Arts Luncheon and Fashion Show has become an annual event hosted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter’s Arts and Letters Committee. On March 21, at the Doubletree Hotel in Monroeville, more than 300 welcomed spring and enjoyed an exciting fashion show to benefit the Dr. Vernell A. Lillie Arts Scholarship Fund. The proceeds of the event allowed DST to award two $1,000 scholarships to Pittsburgh community students planning to pursue a post-secondary education in the arts. This year’s scholarship recipients were Jason Washington of Pittsburgh CAPA and Daria Sullivan of the University of Pittsburgh.
The program included aspiring artists: The Barack Obama International Studies Academy Steel Drum Band, The Hill Dance Academy, a musical selection by Calvin Stemley and a monologue by Wesley Jones, the 2014 Dr. Vernell A. Lillie Scholarship Recipient. The DST models included: Rochelle Chatman, Danielle Crawford, Latika Davis-Jones, Kimberle Greene, Ciarra Lewis, Sandra Mitchell, Erica Motley, Carolyn Peterson and Wrenna Watson. Also on the runway was Aaron Coleman of Kappa Alpha Psi, Brian Cook of Alpha Phi Alpha, Basil Martin of Omega Psi Phi, Arthur Woods of Phi Beta Sigma and Wayne Walters, the principal at Pittsburgh Obama.
Cook, an award winning journalist, filmmaker and founder /owner of Golden Sky Media Company, was this year’s celebrity model. Unique and stylish fashions were provided by Christopher & Banks, Michelangelo’s Tailoring &Tuxedos, the Ujamaa Collective, Allure Fashion Boutique, Chico’s, That’s Sharp Boutique and Larrimor’s.
As always there were grand baskets to win and raffles to participate in, but the surprise of the afternoon was the Dynamic Delta Red Shoe contest. One lady in the crowd was selected by a secret judge as the winner of a gift certificate from Littles Shoes––wearing the cutest red shoes was Holly Williams.
