On the Monday after Easter, the Silver Cord Interdenominational Association, Ministers Wives and Widows of Pittsburgh and the Vicinity held their annual Easter Bonnet Luncheon and Fashion Show at the Doubletree by Hilton in Monroeville.
Silver Cord has a rich history; the Easter Bonnet Luncheon and Fashion Show was established in 1936 as the major promotional fund raiser. In 1973 the luncheon was moved from local churches to the downtown hotels due to the swelling crowds. Currently, the Silver Cord continues to serve its mission to unite, support and encourage ministers’ wives and widows through fervent prayer, unconditional love and faith in Jesus Christ.
The Silver Cord IAMWMW Inc. is the oldest ministers’ wives association in Pennsylvania and continues to serve its mission under the leadership of a vibrant and committed woman of God, President Debra Faye Cooper.
During the April 6 event, with Joy Woodruff as the mistress of ceremony, Silver Cord donated a portion of their proceeds to The Neighborhood Academy. Thomas Johnson is the head of the school and one hundred percent of their graduates are accepted to college.
After lunch, the crowd enjoyed a fashion show with fashions by “Inspired by You” owner Betty West and the judging of hats. Contest winners were Jerri Allen (most elegant); May Kelly (most original); Dorinda Bartley (most classic); and Cookie Ransom (show stopper).
