It’s not often we cover birthday celebrations on this page, but some bear notice. On July 26, Beatrice Coleman celebrated 103 years of life with a beautiful party at the Comfort Inn Hotel on Rodi Road. This was the same location as her 100th celebration. She decided on the location, the color scheme and the menu.  Her son, Jesse Coleman Jr., and daughter,  Teresa Clark, served as master and mistress of ceremonies.
Beatrice made a grand entrance in a beautiful pink gown on the arm of her son, David. Born in Greenville,  S.C., Beatrice later moved to Uniontown, Pa., where she also attended high school.
She migrated to the North Side of Pittsburgh and has been a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church for 68 years. Beatrice joined the church in 1947 and at 100, was still serving on the Usher Board. Overseer L.C. Carter said she is a true woman of God that depends on her Lord for the power and grace to accomplish all things.
Beatrice is quite stylish, loves to wear hats and it is reported that she sets the style at the church. She collects Unicorn’s and angels, but considers her true hobby to be photography. As far as a profession, Beatrice was a nurse and, for many years, worked at Divine Providence Hospital.
She has three children, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. It was mentioned at the party that Beatrice wanted to live long enough to be on the Willard Scott/Smuckers Jar of Jelly. I think it’s time for someone to give Willard a call.
