Lifestyles Report…Take advantage of the senior discount at Kennywood

There is nothing like a discount. I am a fan of 50 percent off and higher. When a longtime friend asked me to go to Kennywood on a Monday night with a group of friends I was a little hesitant. I don’t ride that many rides, so was I going to get my money’s worth on a Monday night at the amusement park?
She said there was a discount for seniors if we went after a certain time. She mentioned $15; that sounded good, but then her sister called me and told me that if I went on line the tickets would be $4.99. Now you’re talking. I’m in. I used my iPhone to make the purchase. It was so easy and I felt so young.
The only thing I could think of was what was I going to eat when I got there? Just like a little kid. Our time was short in the park so this had to be planned perfectly. I ate a light breakfast and light lunch. Once we found parking spots in the free parking lot we made our way to the entrance. I showed them my tickets on my phone and all was good.
First stop was the Potato Patch to order some fries. The order is so big you can share it. That is a tip for those of you watching your calories. Next thing on the menu for me was a corn dog, or as they call it a hotdog on a stick. I was now full and satisfied. What do we ride first? The train is a nice calm ride for seniors over 60 with full stomachs. The ride seemed so much shorter, but it was such a nice night we could see the old steel mills on the other side of the river.
Next was the Merry Go Round. I sure don’t remember the horses being so high. I needed a step stool to get on it. I had to have one that went up and down. Much to our dismay, the music was not working and that sure took away from the enjoyment of the ride. Now it was time for dessert. If only someone would have shared a funnel cake with me. I ended up passing on the dessert.
Much to my surprise, there was a parade that began at 8 p.m., it lasted for about 15 or 20 minutes and included a lot of high school bands. A laser show followed at 9 p.m. In between the shows we rode the racer and the Jack Rabbit; two of my favorite rides. I think the seats have gotten smaller. We sure got our $5 worth. I plan to go back for Fright Night and the holiday light decorations they put up around Christmas time. I have often heard about it, but I never went.
If you haven’t been to the park in a while, go and just walk around, and play the games and eat. The visit will bring back pleasant memories.
