State Representative LaShawn Ford, D-Chicago, has these comments regarding a proposal to impose a garbage pick-up fee in the city of Chicago: “The city and the state are both struggling to bring in enough revenue to pay bills, so Chicago’s residents could soon have new city and state taxes affecting their earnings. The city of Chicago will soon propose a property tax increase and possibly a garbage pick-up fee. I am urging the city of Chicago to spare our senior citizens of a possible garbage pick-up fee. Senior citizens have a fixed income and can’t afford increased expenses. Let’s extend the senior citizens property tax freeze to an exemption from any garbage pick-up fees.
