On Sept. 19 at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cathedral in Munhall the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Alpha Alpha Omega Chapter celebrated the fifth anniversary of their Fall Fantasy Cabaret. This year the theme was “Glitz and Glamour.”
Yes, St. John The Baptist banquet hall is quite the party place and on this evening, the tables featured table lamps of a by gone era as center pieces. Of course the lamps were in shades of pink and green, and were expertly designed by Jan Bates. The lamps gave you that cabaret feel. The ladies took the opportunity to glam it up in sexy dresses and the gents were the arm candy. Over 300 attended the signature event with TJ the DJ providing the sound track.
Event chairs Crystal McCormick and Peggy Harris say this major fundraiser raises funds for their many programs including the Historically Black College and University Tours and scholarships. On Nov. 1, the ladies of AKA will participate in the Kidney Walk at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium while on Dec. 5, they will present the Precious to Cultured Pearls Cotillion at the Rodof Shalom banquet hall.
