For 25 years the Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund of Western PA (KSEF) and the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. have hosted a Valentines Extravaganza. It has always been a time for them to honor their sweethearts, have a great time and don their favorite colors—red and white. In years past, the annual Valentine Ball consisted of a black tie party, but this year the brothers of KSEF thought way outside of the Valentine box.
On Feb. 13, at the August Wilson Center, KSEF and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., along with corporate sponsors UPMC, Highmark, Robert Morris University and P&W Motors, presented the SOS Band in celebration of 25 years of KSEF. The fund was the brainchild of Thomas A. Motley Sr., past Polemarch of the Pittsburgh Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
Hundreds of guests enjoyed a catered reception and an outstanding performance by the SOS Band. The Atlanta-based group still features original members and did not disappoint as they performed the hits they are best known for: “Tell Me If You Still Care,” “The Finest,” “Weekend Girl,” “Just Be Good To Me,” “Take Your Time Do it Right” and so many more.
Prior to the show, KSEF thanked their sponsors, recognized original board members, honored KSEF President Howard A. Russell Jr., thanked NEED, Penn State University and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for their continued support.
