Statement of Fulton County Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman On Safety and Security of Fulton County Personnel and Property During Special Grand Jury Investigation of Donald John Trump Sr.
“I believe that we can never be vigilant enough when it comes to the safety of the public and the public servants who are working on our behalf. District Attorney Fani Willis was correct in seeking more security and assistance from our federal partners in the Department of Justice and the FBI.
Many may wish to ‘sweep under the rug,’ the January 6 insurrection, but Fulton County will not—not on my watch.
I am proud to have led the effort to provide the DA and the Sheriff’s Offices with more funds at the start of their tenures one year ago, and I stand ready to increase funding to both agencies if Donald J. Trump Sr., or his acolytes even suggest causing disruption or harm to citizens on the Special Grand Jury or any member of the staff of Fulton County Government, especially its criminal-justice agencies, in carrying out their constitutional and lawful duties.
My Office will continue to maintain an open-line of communication with the district attorney and Sheriff Patrick “Pat” Labat, and the Fulton County police chief, to stay informed as to their recommendations on increasing security in the County buildings, including the courthouse.”
