As the saying goes, to whom much is given, much is required. Bishop Craig L. Oliver Sr. at Elizabeth Baptist Church has made that his mantra and is very intentional about using his platform, resources, and influence to make a positive impact in his congregation and the community.
Recently the Trump administration has made it a priority to attack DEI and their efforts to erase Black history and minimize the major contributions that African-Americans have made to this country over the last four hundred fifty plus years.
In an effort that he has decided to have their 1st Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 14th from noon until 8:00pm. Award Winning Gospel recording artist VaShawn Mitchell will serve as the Host and will feature special guests like Kelly Price, David Michael Wyatt, 1K Phew, Lisa Knowles Smith & The Brown Singers and more.
Although the church is hosting this event Bishop Oliver is intentional about not marketing this event as a church event.
The Black church has always been a staple of the Black community dating back to Slavery, to Civil Rights to now. Bishop Oliver feels the Black church should definitely play a role in preserving Black history.
The celebration is FREE and open to everyone regardless of age, ethnicity or religious beliefs and will include a series of family friendly activities from performances by national recording artists to local choirs, celebrity appearances, prominent speakers, historical exhibits, food trucks, and educational presentations.
“Together, we can continue the mission of uplifting our community and ensuring that the significance of Juneteenth is both remembered and lived out.” says Bishop Oliver.
