Atlanta Hawks, CareSource Hosts Career Readiness With A S.M.I.L.E. Workshop

The Atlanta Hawks and CareSource recently hosted their signature Career Readiness with a S.M.I.L.E. Workshop as part of the CareSource Life Services program, which connects individuals to education, community resources and essential services to support their overall health and well-being.

City of Refuge, an organization to bring light, hope, and transformation to individuals and families in Atlanta, particularly those experiencing crisis and living on the margins, will host the event at their office in Atlanta’s westside.

Participants will develop their career readiness with workshops in transferable skills, setting goals, interview preparations and crafting mission statements. Attendees will gain the knowledge and tools to take on the workforce at different stages of their careers.

“At the center of everything that we do is our mission,” says Brandy Yarbrough, Life Services Manager, CareSource. “And our mission is to make a lasting difference in the lives of our members, and some of the ways that we do that is by reinvesting in our members in the communities that we serve. And so we have partnered with the Hawks and City of Refuge to offer this career readiness workshop, not only to our members, but it’s open to anyone here in the public as well. We offer them training and support in order for them to achieve their professional goals.”

Jeannie Ross, Director of Workforce Innovation, City of Refuge, also shared thoughts. “My lane here at City Refuge is all about getting people in position to work, not just the people that live at City of Refuge, but our community as well as Metro Atlanta,” she said. “So when there’s an opportunity to inform people about new ways to do your resume, updated ways to do a job interview, I’m always open to the opportunity.”

Camye Mackey, Executive Vice President and Chief People, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer for the Hawks and State Farm Arena, discussed the importance of the initiative.

“We are so grateful to partner with CareSource on the Career Readiness with a S.M.I.L.E. Workshop at City of Refuge,” said Mackey. “Everyone has a unique career path, and it’s important to empower individuals to feel confident in taking the next step in their journey. Training sessions like this are one of the many ways we can help level the playing field and provide essential resources to our community.”
