Fulton County Board of Commissioners Rejects Tax Hike; Fulton County Jail

Thousands of citizens of Fulton County – from north to south – spoke out and sent a clear, unified message to the Board of Commissioners: Now is not the time for a tax increase!

Your pleas did not fall on deaf ears. I am pleased to inform you that the Fulton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) officially voted to reject the proposed 12.5% property tax increase and instead adopted the flat millage rate of 8.87.

After four Commissioners voted in June to advertise an increase of 1 mil — which would have collected an additional $80 million in tax revenue at the expense of our homeowners and renters alike — I worked to convince them to reconsider their support for the tax hike.

My efforts along with your voices were powerful. The proposed millage rate increase was rejected in a 6-1 vote.

I thank you for your participation in this process. Without your grassroots mobilization and opposition, we would have faced a higher millage rate and been slapped with tax bills most simply cannot afford. You have demonstrated the effectiveness of engaging in the political process.

I urge you to continue to pay attention to the important issues facing Fulton County Government and make your voices heard. We will begin planning our budget for 2026 in the Fall which will have implications for the millage rate the following summer.

Stay engaged. As we saw today, you – the taxpayers – can make a difference.
