Come Out for This Free Celebration of Black Women & Femme Entrepreneurs, Innovators and Artists
Today BMMA has unveiled the official programming and speaker line-up for its upcoming BMHxCLTR Fest, event taking place August 16 in Atlanta. This year’s event is free and will spotlight short and feature-length documentaries by Black women filmmakers that are amplifying urgent maternal and reproductive health issues that Black women and birthing people face here in the U.S. and across the Diaspora. Featured films include:

“ME Period” – The journey often starts with the first period, but the way in which we come to know ourselves and our bodies begins with every conversation we’ve had — or haven’t had — before then. Through the eyes of everyday Black families and celebrity mothers like Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tabitha Brown, “Me Period” explores the beauty and complexity of how we navigate sensitive conversations about our bodies and our periods. Directed by Lisa Cunningham, this documentary was developed by the Black Women’s Health Imperative to shed light on these crucial topics. Visit the film’s official website

“Period” – The short film, “Period” is a bold and urgent story confronting period poverty and breaking menstrual taboos. Directed by Nii Dromo, “Period” is not just a film — it’s a movement. Together, we’re using storytelling as a powerful tool for awareness, education, and change. In addition to screening the film, The co-founders of REPRA Health, Rose Aka-James & Alexis Amankwanor, will provide an overview of REPRA’s work with stakeholders from the U.S. and Ghana to champion reproductive health and wellness across the African diaspora. Now in its third year, CLTR Fest is a vibrant celebration and showcase of Black women’s and femmes’ entrepreneurship, innovation, and artistic expression in Black Maternal Health. This distinctive event connects the realms of wellness, technology, business, and creativity to amplify stories, solutions, and cultural expressions that promote birth justice and maternal health equity. BMHxCLTR Fest focuses on wellness and environmentally friendly businesses, showcasing how commerce can significantly enhance positive Black Maternal Health outcomes.
