HOW MANY CHICKENS DO YOU WEIGH?

FIND OUT IN THE NEWEST TRAVELING EXHIBIT AT TELLUS SCIENCE MUSEUM

Ditch the scales, rulers, and stopwatches!

Measurement Rules, now open at Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, GA explores nonstandard measurement tools such as balancing scales, odometers, calipers, 3-D imaging, and more. The interactive exhibit was designed to encourage guests to become more confident in the language of measurement and provide visual cues for common values of measurement.

Museum visitors can learn how tall they stand in apples and pennies, turn their own feet into units of

measurement, count seconds in “Mississippis”, and learn their weight in chickens.

“While it was originally designed with children in mind, the Measurement Rules exhibit is still fun for all ages,” said Director of Curatorial Services, Amy Gramsey. “Units of measurement can sometimes feel abstract and hard to translate into real-life scenarios. Giving guests fun and memorable visuals can help make concepts of distance, weight, volume, and time feel more concrete.”

Measurement Rules is included with regular museum admission and will be open until May 3, 2026. Guests can also take advantage of the final days of the Kids Free September promotion to experience the exhibit. From now until the end of September (excluding Saturday, September 27), guests can buy one adult admission, get one child (age 3 – 17) admission FREE!
